How To Care For A Sick Animal
Home will be an ideal place for your pet to recuperate. (Familiar surrounding and people). Alternative or natural forms of treatment can be used without conflict. IF YOU ARE GIVING YOUR ANIMALS A PRESCRIPTION DRUG RECOMMEND BY YOUR VETERINARIAN DO NOT USE THE HOMEOPATHIC REMEDIES SUGGESTED!
A seriously sick animal has certain basic need. Quiet, safe and warm and to have access to fresh air and sunlight. They normally will fast (Do not eat for days). This is a part of healing response, rather than forcibly overridden. Free of drafts, disturbances and loud noise enable your animals to rest peacefully and feel protected. Keep the area clean, if your pet desires some fresh air and sunlight its ok.

Bathing And Cleaning
In some cases your dog is so fouled by vomiting, diarrhea, or skin discharges that a bath is definitely in order. You should, however take on this task only at the end of an illness. Otherwise, rely upon the cleaning method. Dry him quickly by giving him a good toweling, follow by a warm sunbath or blowdry, with the dryer held not too close to the fur. You can bath your dog, only when it is heavily parasitized with fleas and lice that its strength is being sapped. A soapy bath that will remove and drown the parasites is in order.
Care For Body Openings:
Often disease will cause discharges from various body orifices, especially the nose, eyes, ear, and anus. Here are few tips that offer great relief.
NOSE: If plugs and secretion have formed, carefully clean the nose with a soft cloth or gauze saturated with warm water. Sometimes patience is need in trying to soften the material so you can gradually remove it. 2 or 3 session may be better than a single long session.
EYES: Mix 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt into a cup of distilled or filtered water. Stir well and use this mixture to clean the eyes the same way describe above for nose. After the eyes are clean, put one drop of one of the following soothing treatments in each eye: almond oil (for mild irritation), caster oil (for more irritated inflamed eyes) or cod liver oil (for eyes that are dry or ulcerated).

EARS: If the ears contain much oily or waxy secretion, trickle about 1/2 teaspoon of almond oil into the ear hole, preferably using a dropper or squeeze bottle. To start pre-warm the oil in a cup or glass thart is partly immersed in a sink or bowl of hot water. Firmly lift the ear flap or tip. You may need someone to help you hold the dog head in place, because if you let the dog pull away before you can finish the job he will shake oil all over you. Let almond oil run down into the ear for a few seconds.
While still holding the ear flap, reach down with your other hand and massage the ear canal from the outsiode at the bottom of the ear opening. It feel like a firm plastic tube that you can compress as you massage. If you do it right, you will hear a squishy sound. This treatment loosens up and dissolves the lodged wax. Use a tissue to remove any excess oil and material that work their way out. Don use a cotton swab except around the opening.
If the ear is very red and inflamed, use calendula oil or aloe vera juice. It's usually adequate to treat the ear this way once every day or two. Another treatment that can be used in irritated ears is green tea. Put 2 bags in the mug and fill with boiling water. Let it steep for 10 mins and take out the bags. When cool down, use to flush out the ears.
On the other hand, if the ear is painful when touch at the massage point but show no discharge. It is best to have your veterinarian examines the ear and determine the cause of the pain.If there is no obvious cause for the ear pain, a good treatment to use is Arnica oil (available at homeopathic pharmacy or a health food store). Gently treat the ear as previously once a day until the discomfort is gone.

ANUS: Often the anus will get very inflamed as a result of excessive diarrhea, causing the surrounding tissue to get irritated and sometimes infected with bacteria. To keep this area clean during the diarrhea stage of illness, sponge it gently with damp cloth (rubbing can cause further irritate it). Pat (don't rub) it dry and apply some calendula ointment. Apply 2 or 3 times per day or as needed.
How To Give Liquid Medication
There are 2 methods.
1) Pry the mouth open. Lightly grasp the animal's upper jaw with one hand and insert your thumb and finger in the gaps just behind the fangs. (For small dogs, just 1 finger is need in addition to the thumb.) Most animals will then relax their mouths slightly so that you can pour the liquid with a spoon or a dropper between the front teeth. Tilt the head back when you pour the liquid in, so that the liquid will run down.

2) Make a pouch out of the animal's lip. Used one hand to pull out the corner of the animal's lower lip to make a little pouch and, keeping the head tilted back, pour the liquid into it with the other hand.
In either instance, if the liquid doesn't go on, its because the teeth are clenched too tightly. If so, pry open them slightly with your fingers. If your animal backs away, put its rear end in a corner so it can't move away from you. Or get someone to hold the dog. Another way to do this is to sit on the floor or a bed with your dog between your legs. With her rear end toward you and the head facing away, you can keep her positioned more easily for the administration.
How To Give Pills And Capsules
Open the dog's mouth by grasping around the upper jaw, as describe for liquids. Hold the capsule or pill between your thumb and the first and second fingers. Use the remaining fingers to press down the lower font teeth and thus pry the jaw open.
Insert the medication into the throat, pushing it as far back as you can. Then induce swallowing as describe above. At first this will seem awkward. After a few tries, it will become much easier.

Using Homeopathic Medications
Use on of the 2 methods:
1)Give the tablets or pellets whole. Administer them from the cap of the vial or from a clean spoon.
2)Crush the pellets into powder (use three pellets). To do the crushing, make a crisp fold on a heavy paper. (A small file card is very good for this.) Pour the tablets from the bottle into the open fold. Fold the paper flat, with the pellets inside against the crease, and put the folded paper on a hard countertop. Tap against the pellets (in the paper) with a heavy glass to gradually crush them to a powder. Some of the pellets can be very hard careful of your furniture.
With word of encouragement, invited your animals to lick it. If he is not interested, use the same holding and prying technique describe for other pills to get the medicine in. Prepare by pushing the powder down tp the edge of the paper with your fingernail, then open the mouth and flick the powder from the paper onto the dog's tongue.
This method both eliminates the possible of your dog spitting outand also keep it from being contaminated.
There are distinct advantages to using homeopathic pellets or tablets. Because only a small number are given, they are easy to monitor. In many instances only 1 or just a few doses are needed during the entire course of treatment.

Skin Problem For Dogs And Cats
Hair Loss
Hair loss is often result of skin allergies and excessive licking and chewing.
If there are no sign of skin irritation, this is a sign of inadequate protein intake. Other deficiencies, particularly of trace minerals, will slow hair growth.

There are 2 remedies that are especially useful for simple hair loss unaccompanied by other symptoms.
Homeopathic
Selenium 30C: If this treatment is successful, you will see signs of hair growth within a month. Do not repeat this remedy without any supervision. Use the feeding method below.
Sepia (Ink from cuttlefish.) 30C. This remedy suit female that loose hair after giving birth and nursing the young. Not necessarily a nutritional problem; is more likely a hormonal imbalance, which can be corrected in this remedy. Use the feeding method below.
This method you give only one treatment. Give two whole pellets or 3 pellets crushed into powder. Place on the tongue. Give no food and water before and after treatment. Wait for a full month before any further treatment; it will be a mistake to repeat the remedy in a few days. If by the end of the month no improvement is evident, you will need to choose a new medicine.
Symptoms Of Skin Disorder are:
1) Very Dry Skin
2) Flakiness or white scales resembling dandruff
3) Large brown flakes
4) Redness and irritation
5) Itching (ranging from slight to so severe that blood is drawn)
6) Greasy hair and foul odor to the skin and its secretions
7) Pimples and blisters that form between the toes and discharge blood and pus
8) Brown, black or gray skin discoloration
9) Formation of scabs or crusts, and hair loss.
10) Chronic inflammation inside the ear canal
11) Anal gland problem
12) Underactive (hypoactive) thyroid glands as related to skin disease.
What Are The Causes Of This Overall Disorder?
1) Toxicity - Probably most of it from poor quality food and some of it from other sources, like environmental pollutants and deliberately applied pest control chemical.
2) Vaccinations - Inducing immune disorders in susceptible animals
3) Suppressed disease - remains of an inadequately treated condition that never was cured and that may periodically discharge through skin.
4) Psychological Factors - boredom, frustration, anger, and irritability. However these are secondary issues that simply aggravate an already-exiting problem.
Homeopathic
Rhus Toxicodendron (poison ivy, poison oak) 6C: Suitable as a temporary medicine when itching flares up and is very intense. There tends to be swelling of the skin and relief from applying warm compresses.
USE METHOD 2
Graphites (a form of carbon) 6C: This remedy is indicated when the "hot spot" ooze a sticky, thick discharge, about the consistency of honey.
USE METHOD 2
Mercurius vivus (0r solubilis) (mercury, quicksilver) 6C: Use this one if there is a pus-like yellowish or greenish discharge. Also the hair will tend to fall out eruptions, leaving raw, bleeding areas. The condition is usually worse in hot weather or in very warm living quarters. Frequently these animals will have red gums, problems woth the teeth and very bad smelling breath.
USE METHOD 2
Aresenicum album 6C: This remedy suit dogs with skin eruptions that cause a great deal of restlessness and discomfort. They seem to be driven almost insane - constantly chewing. licking and scratching. The skin lesions are very red and dry with loss of hair and an "eating away" of the skin, leaving angry red sores. Especially indicated if the dog becomes very thirsty and chilly as well.
For animals with a long term, low grade condition of itchy, greasy, or dry ans scaly skin (who may also have an underactive thyroid), start by fasting one time every week. Offering only broth. The rest of the time feed only natural food and supplements. It is important that you don't feed commercial food or supplement with questionable ingredient, because part of your pet's problem may be a hypersensitivity or allergy to artificial additives or processed ingredients. If skin is greasy and foul-smelling bath your dog at least once per week. If skin is dry, bath less often.
USE METHOD 2
Sulphur (the element) 6C: This remedy is very helpful for dry, itchy skin, especially your dog tend to be thin, "lazy", and not very clean, with red looking eyes, nose or lips. These animals generally don't like a lot of heat, but sometimes will seek out a warm stove in cooler weather.
USE METHOD 6a
Graphites (a form of carbon) 6C: These dogs tend to be overweight, constipated, and easily overheated. Eruption ooze sticky fluid. The skin is easily inflamed, even by slight injuries like scratches, and it does not heal easily. The ears can be plagued with irritationm a bad smell abd waxy discharge.
USE METHOD 6a
Thuya (or Thuja) occidentalis (arborvitae) 30C: This remedy is an antidote to illness following vaccinations. Many of the animals developed skin problem within a few weeks after vaccinated. This remedy occasionally during treatment really helps such dogs recover. Another time to consider Thuya (or Thuja) is when other medicines have not done much good. If so, giving Thuya and then going back to one of the above remedies will sometimes result in progress.
USE METHOD 4
Silicea (silicon dioxide, quartz) 30C: If the problem persist in spite of the advice given so far, especially if there is an excessive appetite, stealing food, scavenging - even leading to overweight - then this medicine will be of use. Do not repeat this medicine.
Note: In general, these deeply, ingrained skin conditions require patience and persistence. You will usually see clear, beneficial effect from the program within 6-8 weeks.
Because vaccines tend to aggravate the condition, it is very important to avoid them during the treatment period. Sometime medicines like those used for heartworm prevention will set offf an attack. In this case it is best to use the monthly type of heartworm medication and give it only every 6 weeks (or stop using it altogether in severe cases).
Some cases will not completely recover no matter how long you treat them (though they generally improve). These need more individualized treatment with other homeopathic remedies or one of the holistic approaches.
For the animal to suffer hair loss, try a slightly different program. Sometimes a pet will just begin to lose hair without any other apparent problem. Or the loss could be the result of poisoning - not necessarily the intentional kind, but rather the accumulation of toxic substance that may affect sensitive individuals. Common agents to consider include fluoride ( in some drinking water and commercial pet food) and aluminum (from use of aluminum bowls or cooking utensils). Sensitivity to aluminum seems to vary and not all animals show these reaction. Those that are poisoned by aluminum tend to have constipation as well.
It is also possible for hair loss to reflect a disturbance in the endocrine glands (especially hypothyroidism) or a deficiency of a certain nutrient. If your veterinarian has diagnosed either of these problems, then feed only the natural diet with added kelp powder. This particularly important, because the powder's iodine content will help to stimulate the thyroid. Give 1/2 to 2 teaspoon of kelp powder daily (amount depend on your dog's size). In addition, give 250 to 1,000 mg of vitamin C 2 time a day to aid detoxification and 5 - 20 mg of chelated zinc once a day to enhance the elimination of heavy metals. Discontinue of using aluminum utensils and fluoridated water.
USE METHOD 4
Thuya (or Thuja) occidentalis (arborvitae) 30C: Try Thuya first because it is an antidote to the effects of vaccination, which is the primary reason for a persistently poor hair coat for poor hair growth. (Sometimes hair loss is at a normal rate, but the issue is that no new hair grows in to replace it; in such case this remedy suit it well)
Selenium (the element) 30C: Indicated for excessive hair loss with no new growth, especially if there are no other symptoms of illness. Use it after trying the Thuya (or Thuja) occidentalis (arborvitae) 30C, if the remedy is not sufficient to resolve the problem.
Sepia (cuttlefish ink) 30C: If an animal develops the hair loss after giving birth use this remedy. Give one dose.
Method 2
Give 1 or 2 pellets every 4 hours for a total of 3 treatments. Provide no food for ten minutes before and after treatment. No further homeopathic treatment will be use for the next 24 hours. If your dog is not noticeably improve by then, try another remedy or go to one of the other treatment choices.
Method 6a
Here you will repeat the does over a longer period. You will give it once every day. Provide no food for 5 minutes before and after giving the medicine.
The treatment usually take 7 - 10 days. If it has helped some but not enough, this can be an indication that either a better medicine should be used or there is something else slowing down the recovery. It is best to get advice from a holistic veterinarian at this point.
Method 4
This method you give only one treatment. Give two whole pellets or 3 pellets crushed into powder. Place on the tongue. Give no food and water before and after treatment. Wait for a full month before any further treatment; it will be a mistake to repeat the remedy in a few days. If by the end of the month no improvement is evident, you will need to choose a new medicine.
Herbal
Garlic (allium sativum): Give daily 1/4 to 1 whole clove (fresh grated or minced) or 1 to 3 small garlic capsules. You can continue giving garlic indefinitely, as it also dicourages fleas.

How To Give Your Dog/Cat A Quick Checkup
1. Does the hair coat feel greasy? Is the skin colour a normal gray-white or is it pink or red with inflammation? Do you see dandruff-like scales of dead skin among the hairs?
2. Use your fingers to brush the hair against the grain. Do you see numerous little black specks? These are excreta of fleas.
3. Now smell your finger. If the ord0r they picked up is rancid, rank or fishy, its a sign of poor health.

Hamster Care
Cost
You will need to spend around $45 at first for the cage. Around $50 for food, $20 for toys and treats, and $180 on bedding per year.
Housing
Syrian hamsters are solitary and must live alone. ONE Syrian hamster per cage. To prevent fighting among them which may lead to death.
Dwarf hamsters on the other hand like to live in pair or group. DO NOT house hamster of different sex together as hamsters breed very fast.
DO NOT place cage under sunlight and draft. Try to place the cage in a cool environment. Use aspen shaving, recycle paper, timothy hay or pellet bedding. DO NOT use cedar and pine shaving because record show that these bedding cause health problem to the animals.
Hamsters like to exercise a lot so have a wheel and some tube for them to run around. Hamsters also like to hide around, put some shredded paper so that the hamsters can use it to make their nest.
General Care
Hamster's teeth grow continuously so they need a thing to chew so attach a wood or twig. It is for gnawing.
Wash your hand every time before you handle your hamster. Cause the smell of the things you previously contact might be a smell of treats to the hamsters.
It take some time for your hamster to adapt to your smell.
Life Span
For normal dwarf hamster the life span is about 1 - 2 years. As for the golden hamster the life spam is around 2 - 3 years.
